This means nothing if they don't stop pushing an algorithm that has been proven time and time again to cause damage to mental health in the first place.

Sure it does. It lets them smile and say, "We did tell you. But you chose to do nothing." Probably even while you're grieving at the recent loss of your child or loved one.

As always, when it comes to the intersection of techbros, threats of legislation and society, this is about making their problems and decisions your responsibility. Politicians fall for it every time, because they love "personal responsibility" rhetoric, and Number Must Go Up continues as before.

  1. This means they had to verify my teenager is a kid. I don't want it collecting information on my child.
  2. This means that they also have verified I'm the parent or legal guardian of said child meaning whether I use Instagram or not they are collecting information on me, and I don't want that either.
  3. The algorithm for Instagram is a major direct contributor to suicidal ideation and this does nothing to fix that.

No thank you. Burn it with fire.

Wild take, given that Instagram is often the cause for the self-harm tendencies of teenagers.

Honestly I don't understand why this platforms exist in their form. We know that they are responsible for the suicide of teenagers. How much worse can it get?

How? If I'm a teenager on Instagram and I'll start looking up this kind of content how is Instagram going to contact my parents, how do they even know who my parents are, they don't even know who I am, I'm just a username.
