Why is anarchist.nexus using cloudflare?

Thanks to cloudflare being down for me right now I discovered that the server uses it. Is it really necessary? dbzer0 doesn't. I get that it offerers security and hides the IP but an anarchist community relying on a centralised company like this is a problem, as this outage showcases.
