The car struck a tree just after 3 a.m. local time, when Dixon was driving. Miller was in the passenger seat, and both Nelson and Tsukahara were in the back seat. Dixon, Nelson and Tsukahara all died.

At the time of the crash, Dixon was drunk and had a blood alcohol level of 0.195%, the San Francisco Standard and NBC News Bay Area reported, citing autopsy reports. He also had cocaine in his system, per the outlets.

A drunk Cybertruck driver gets his passengers killed. Design flaw prevents rescue. The lawsuit is over the design flaw that killed a drunk driving teenager and his friends. This could go either way. A talented but unethical individual could make the case that if the driver was responsible they wouldn't be coked out and drunk at 3am so negligence related deaths were inevitable.

Tesla is in the headline because this is a PR piece by the rich family of the deceased to assert blame and sway public opinion. Pure manipulation by a family that allowed their highschool aged son to have a Cybertruck. They seem to be terrible decision makers - a trait that, once, ran in the family.

Tesla is in the headline because someone outside the vehicle couldn't open the door, regardless of the driver being drunk.

To be fair, you often can't open vehicle doors after a serious crash that deforms the structure of the vehicle or the doors.

But yes, I'm sure electronic door handle fuckery made it worse.

Really just the door being locked would result in the same thing, electronic or not. Could blame the ‘bulletproof’ windows at that point for being hard to break into. Where the lawsuits should come in is if the passenger wasn’t able to open the door from the inside despite the door being mechanically intact. Seems like that has happened as well in other instances.

A sober person could end up in the same position due to no fault of their own. Thousands of sober people get into auto accidents every day, just not usually driving a coffin.
