This does sounds like China is being a 3 years old here, throwing tantrums until they get what they want.

That strategy has worked for the US and Russia for decades, why wouldn't China try the same?
If the international community keeps rewarding bad behaviour - and there's much worse behaviour than this being rewarded - then countries will misbehave.

But they are not independent. They have never declared independence and still have the one China bs. There are reasons it is not so easy to recognize them as people make it out to be. I mean they where still in the UN as the government of China till the 70s even though they where not in power. This is way more complicated then people online make it out to be. I mean both still claim to be one China.
