Hello there I don't think this post fits the community, but I couldn't find a better place to post this, so sorry in advance
I'm trying to make a basic oil lamp, as a fun project, with stuff I have laying around, but I'm concerned about the glass blowing up and setting everything on fire.
Can I use any type of glass, or do I need something heat resistant?
Can I use rapeseed oil in it?
Can I use jute string for the knot?
I already had something figured out, had it burning for a few minutes, and everything seemed alright, the glass seemingly didn't heat up, it was completely cold to the touch
Any help will be great

Borosilicate glass only. It's designed for high temps. You might get away with using normal tempered glass for years, but it can contain stresses and hidden flaws that can explode suddenly with no warning.
Normal rapeseed or canola oil will burn, but can contain additives / impurities that will form a resin under heat and clog the wick. You can get tiki torch fuel at the dollar store.
Jute isn't super absorbent, but it might work in a pinch. Depends on the viscosity of the fuel, too. Most commercial lamp wicks are cotton. You could probably use a 100% cotton clothesline or rope.
