After I learned what this was I realized I've been doing it to a few people in my life already lol
It definitely helps with my insanely annoying coworker who is literally incapable of not talking if he sees another person. He will talk to you if he sees you even if it's just to talk about kitty litter. God forbid you have a conversation anywhere near him he will insert himself into it and try to take it over.
They'd have to specify something because if I were to pick something at random it might be something they already know, then I wouldn't be teaching them anything I'd just be personsplaining to them. Although I could be certain that they hadn't thought of the ramifications of saying "teach me something", so you could say that simply by bringing this up I would be teaching them something.
