I always felt this was one of the most unfair parts of childhood. You never just get in trouble once. If you mess up at school, the teacher yells at you, then the principal yells at you, then your mom yells at you later at home, and then your dad yells at you even later. It fucks you up.
"Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired."
I didn't realize it at the time, but series like these probably helped me be better at things. We also had some crazy snow trips at places like Hamburger Hill.
