Is it because Oman is conveniently on the other of the strait? Or does Oman and Iran have better relations than I thought?

Both but also Oman didn't host any aggression atracks against Iran as far as I know.

Would Oman have any way of attacking Iran if they wanted to? I'm extremely ignorant of current Omani events and capabilities. I just know that at one point, Oman owned both sides of the strait (around 1830 or 40s iirc.)

My Oman knowledge is also bad but Oman has a US base which they must have disallowed the use of for the US to bomb Iran. Don't take that as a fact though. I'm not sure either.

That made me do a double take too. Normally to levy tolls on ships you need to go to war with the US and/or Israel (like Panama, Egypt, Iran, etc.).

EDIT: Turns out there are many canals which don't serve as maritime chokepoints and which did not involve any major wars.
