FINAL UPDATE: I have joined PieFed under the same username I used on Lemmy. Just commented on this post
UPDATE: I checked my mail and there were six verification emails. I clicked the latest one and it seems to have worked. So the email is working, but delayed somewhat.
EDIT: Some details
- The instance I'm trying to join is piefed.social
- The website is the same (https://piefed.social/auth)
- I am using a permanent email (not throwaway)
- I am not using a VPN
I tried to create an account, but my confirmation email isn't coming through no matter how much I click "resend" (and it shows "email sent" but it never seems to reach my mailbox). I checked the spam filter, mobile app, everything.
Is the instance verification down or something?

this is me :D

What instance of piefed did you join?
Watermark710@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
They never let me know I was approved. I feel like this is a failure in their system. You and I can both clearly use the site, so we're approved. The devs seem to be doing things the lazy way.

Are you the OP on your Piefed account?
Sometimes email registrations don't go through properly.
Watermark710@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
I am not the "OP", I did not create the main post we are talking under. But I did have the same issue as this OP had.
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
Oh, okay. Well I can manually approve them when I know who they're supposed to be.
MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 118d
They are not.
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
What's your account?
MousePotatoDoesStuff@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
This one. I got approved in the meantime, but thanks :D

Which website did you make an account on? If we know which website has the problem, we can let the people who run that website know that their emails are broken.

https://piefed.social/

Ah, they migrated servers recently and had some problems with emails. If you send Rimu your username, they can fix it for you.

When an application is denied, we don't tell you.
Don't use a VPN and don't use a throwaway email to increase your chances of acceptance.
Watermark710@piefed.social · 3 pts · 118d
When I was approved, yall didn't tell me that either. Please fix your website.
I do neither of those things, stop blaming your users for your own mistakes.
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 118d
We don't even know what piefed instance this user signed up to. This seems to be referring to the end-user verifying their email, not on us accepting them - which is a different thing entirely.

OK, I clearly don't understand what things mean on this website. Is there a tutorial or something, so I don't make myself look stupid again? Like, I can talk/post here, does that not mean I am "accepted"? I'm a refugee from reddit, and I understand 0% of what you just said.

Piefed itself is just software. Anyone can spin up this software to run their own version of piefed. You are on the developer's instance, the flagship instance known as "piefed.social". So am I. You can see that in your url. The idea is that different instances of piefed can network together. So you can talk to people who made accounts on other servers with a different admin team.
The idea is that there is no single owner, so no individual point of failure or corruption.
Here are some other piefed instances here on the instance chooser.

That part kinda concerns me. Do yall allow weird far right stuff?
I don't know what that means. I just want to see good food and kittens, like I used to do on reddit, before they ruined their site.
If you had to explain this site to a very stupid person (me in this case), what is even happening? How do I turn this into an /r/all feed that I can scroll to my heart's content?
Sorry to bother you, but I do like this site, and I'd like to use it more, but it confuses me a lot.

No. Mostly those types of places get defederated and left to rot on their own.
As in your url bar. The page you're on now is "piefed.social", right?
You can see the entire Threadiverse by clicking here and clicking the "All" tab which includes everything from all other connected instances.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about Piefed.
Basics: Piefed is a social network across many different websites. Every website runs their own copy of Piefed, and they can all talk to each other. I'm on MULTIVERSE, but you're on piefed.social, and we can still talk to each other.

Pay me
Watermark710@piefed.social · 3 pts · 118d
"How do I use your website?" "Pay me."
Definitely a winning strategy.

I've fixed the email system now. It was broken after a server move recently.
Sorry for my dismissive response earlier.

NGL, you being a human makes me like the site even more. I don't entirely get how things work here, but I think yall will beat reddit now.

Cheers :)
Federation is pretty weird stuff at first, it'll take a few days for it to click.
rimu@piefed.social · 2 pts · 118d
Yes so you want me to do things for you, for free. That's fine, I enjoy this stuff. But set your expectations and demands accordingly.
Jerry@piefed.social · 2 pts · 118d
But different PieFed instances have different registration rules.

I'm using my main email and no VPN.
