I don't know how the web version of lemmy works, but I'd imagine most versions work like Voyager and just open a linked image directly. There's no way to follow it to source.
None of the Lemmy apps I have used besides the default Lemmy webui display the link (and even then I would, apparently even when clicking "view source", I had tried. Placing a link in the post body is more accessible.
Also following the image link which I did now find takes me to a page where I can't even see who posted it without switching to desktop view to view the associated post.
