👃... sniff
Why is he acting like muslims owning African slaves is something he only got from "smart right-wingers?" this is an established historical fact lol.
Also I always thought eurocentrism in more to do with an understanding of history, esp modern history, of Europe as being the main actors in modernity, and relegating non-European actors to the sidelines. I've been reading the book How the West Came To Rule which tries to provide a more balanced view on the emergence of capitalism. One thing the book discusses at length is how the pre-existent slave systems in Africa facilitated the rise of the transatlantic slave trade, bc surplus slave populations existed.
His point at the end is kind of true though, in how criticisms of Europe implicitly accept and reproduce the framework of the European enlightenment. I guess jihadists are the exception lol.
Zizek switches between verbal shitposting and serious intellectualism on a dime. He's only calling right wingers "smart" to mock the contingent of the left who whitewash Islam because muslims are currently victims of western imperialism. He absolutely thinks right wingers are stupid as shit, but recognizes them for acknowledging this piece of history more openly than liberals (and many self proclaimed marxists) do. That said, right wingers obviously dont acknowledge the MENA slave trade out of a dedication to honest historicity, but rather from the perspective of islamaphobia and Christian nationalism, which is equally worthless.
