No but no real implications for gaming, right? IIRC VKD3D and VKD3D-proton differ quite a bit these days.

Depends. If you have older hardware, vkd3d-proton might not work at all. Here's a bit from its readme:

Performance and game compatibility are important targets, at the expense of compatibility with older drivers and systems. Modern Vulkan extensions and features are aggressively made use of to improve game performance and compatibility.
