Here's hoping they make a liar out of you soon! If possible hang it where it's somewhat sheltered from above. By branches or an eave or something. You want to think "it would be awkward for a hawk to swoop down. But a hummingbird can finagle its way in here easy-peasy. And I can reach to refill it as well." Being shaded will also keep it cooler so it will last longer.

I'm amazed it landed.
I've had a hummingbird feeder outside for the first time ever as of about a week ago. Nobody's noticed it yet, but I remain hopeful.

She usually lands! With the hummers that use my feeder, 75% of the time they'll sit for a bit at least.

It took the birds 2 weeks to discover the feeders when I first put them out. It took them over a month to use the bird bath.

The first year I had mine out, it took a while to see a single bird. They've been coming back every year since, for 6+years... so keep your hopes up!
