Of course people turned away at the US border remain in the US.

So, as I understand this, people arrive at the border planning to take advantage of Canada’s previously lax asylum rules rather than planning for immigration?

If a person isn’t deemed admissible at the border, the person is not permitted to enter and stays at the point of entry. There is really nothing newsworthy here.
