Another war? Did that FIFA peace prize mean nothing?!

Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works · 25 pts · 81d (1 reply)

You know, I'm starting to think that FIFA may not be a good authority on this...

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 81d

you know, after this I'm really starting to doubt Trump's commitment to Sparkle Motion

Needs to start more wars so he can try to take credit for ending them.

tpihkal@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 81d

He's going for the Medal of Honor now.

Cuba ain't Iran. There is no Cuban equivalent of the IRGC or trading network back door that extends to Russia and China.

When the hammer falls, we're mostly going to see a lot of dead Cubans and a lot of fled Cubans.

The real risk that War With Cuba presents is a massive flood of refugees showing up across the Caribbean and Mexico.

snooggums@piefed.world · 42 pts · 81d

I would put the deaths of a large number of cubans at the top of the risk list.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 81d (1 reply)

Hegseth will order the military to shoot refugees

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 81d

Probably. Another case of lobbing a $500k artillery round at a guy who makes $200/mo.

BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 81d (2 replies)

If refugees can float to the mainland, I think there is probably reason for concern that asymmetrical warfare can be performed, regardless of their lack of traditional or ultra modern equipment. We have literally never avoided consequences from regime change abroad, so maybe it's a bad idea. Just thinking out loud here.

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 81d (1 reply)

I would be far less worried about Americans living in the Gulf Coast and far more worried about Cubans subject to US Total War on the island

BonsaiBoo@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 81d

They're already cooking trash with cardboard, at some point the suffering you can inflict is negligible

Hotzmon@fedinsfw.app · 4 pts · 81d (1 reply)

Well, it is still quite a lot of difference to have war on another side of the earth, than having war on your backyard.

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 81d

Idk. What were the domestic consequences of our Contra War in Nicaragua?

youcantreadthis@quokk.au · 3 pts · 81d (1 reply)

I think they did just get some. It won't be enough to fight the united States seriously or hold out except in a house-to-house way but it will be enough to blow the shit out of the worst parts of it, should they choose to. Which they should.

Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 81d

They should start with Epstein's palm beach estate and the surrounding pedophiles.

zakobjoa@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 81d

You can do this without resorting to slop.

warbond@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 81d

Why would he be sad? I thought that was the point. What better way to distract from the other distractions?

Florida has nothing worth hitting really.

Except for that one specific house.

Otherwise, Louisiana and Texas are fat targets for any strike against valuable resources.

They'll attack Cuba, a massive flotilla of inner tubes, canoes, and rowboats will fill the waters, the administration will start shooting the refugees from the sky by the hundreds, and claim:

"President Trump is finally liberating the people of Cuba!"

thisorthatorwhatever@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 81d (1 reply)

10 million Cuban. I don't think the US knows what it's getting into if that amount of people get destabilized. The whole Caribbean then starts to domino.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world · 4 pts · 81d

All Trump is interested in is taking it over, and turning Cuba into one giant MAGA theme park for the wealthy, a Western Hemisphere Version of Dubai. He's going to do the same thing in Gaza.

You could get a few stray drones exploding over the US mainland but do you think it would stop them from invading?

Cuba can't produce any significant amount of drones without imports. Being an island in the US backyard they can be blockaded with ease. Iran can still import their stuff over land.

It's relatively easy to bomb every launch site on a tiny island compared to Iran.

It's also easier to cover every path a drone could take from Cuba and still reach anything of value. You have tons on well supplied air bases that can use relatively cheap munitions launched from fighters instead of using dwindling supplies of patriot missiles.

surewhynotlem@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 81d (1 reply)

The US has zero tolerance for damage on our soil. People would lose their freaking minds.

and still reach anything of value.

Well yeah, Cuba can't reach all the way up to Georgia, so things of value aren't at risk.

DeSicko cowering in a bunker is a rather entertaining idea.

And do you suppose Cuba has drones that can reach Mar-a-Lardo?
