Hopefully this is a temporary thing and the league will get popular enough to pay better.
I'm reminded of the women cyclists - most of the pro women actually have other jobs, because the pay is so bad. One wonders how many excellent cyclists there are out there that simply can't afford to do it professionally.

They also get a housing stipend, and these are young people, whom often have roommates. The stipend is 1700 per month in season, and goes up 100 per season. So they aren't making 37k per year
