It's more learning from experience and the social norms of being a girl. Boys ask you out and chase after you. The longer you publicly present as a woman, the more you'll have people sell you out. This applies to platonic contexts as well, as women are seen as more approachable than men.
All that said, sapphics are notorious for being useless, so I wouldn't feel too bad about missing that a lesbian was hitting on you. Men hitting on you is to be expected, but plenty of straight women are just friendly so it's really hard to tell.
