Filing to go public means they've run out of private venture capital money. So now they're looking to draw in one last big round of investment from the stock market before the company collapses into a husk of its former self and leaves early stock investors holding the bag.
If it were OpenAI I'd agree but Anthropic is one of the few with seemingly solid financials and an actual business model beyond just lighting money on fire. Really curious how things go when they focus on efficiency and smaller models. Google is another that I think is well positioned given their chip design and manufacturing
They're really not thought. We got a rare light into their finances that we haven't with other chat bot providers due to a filing of theirs in their court case against the DoD. In this filing Krishna Rao, CFO of Anthropic stated that they had made revenue "exceeding 5 billion" (meaning between their founding in 2021 and now they've gotten 5 billion ever). I'm the same filing they claim 10 billion in "training", and I've seen estimates (outside the filling) that put their total costs at something like 30 billion as of early April.
They're just as much of a disastrous money furnace as OpenAI is. It also strongly suggests they've been pretty much just lying about their reported revenues on the other occasions they've shared them outside of court.

Oh cool, so the bubble's finally about to burst.

So remember when Anthropic refused to let Claude spy on US citizens or operate weapons? Expect that to be the first thing the shareholders reverse.
