UK | Supreme Court disability ruling "biggest rollback of disability rights in a generation"

This is bad. Very bad. It is within living memory that we were doing this to elderly people, even those with robust family support. Even the medical community was actively prescribing meds to keep people chemically coshed. Currently, medical practice does not allow that BUT if it happens, and becomes routine, no one can challenge it. Very very dangerous. It will affect you and your loved ones.

Actually this gives more rights to people. Instead of saying "you lack capacity so you can't make this decision" social workers will be able to work more closely with people to make sure care packages are designed how they want, and will help stop care providers from being overly restrictive, trying to protect themselves from safeguarding and the CQC.

It will help reduce the burden of wasteful court applications, legal fees and judges time for the cases where everyone is in agreement. It will help get people discharged from hospital faster into their own homes.

It doesn't change the situation where a person doesn't want to go into the care environment (supported accommodation or even there own home with care), that still follows the old process.

This is actually a good thing.
