What program do you use to make your maps?

Midjourney and GIMP. It is very hit and miss and does best with natural environments. Interiors tend to be a mess. Exteriors usually require some cleanup. I post the best results out of hundreds.

I thought it looked like AI, Midjourney is pretty crazy.

Some of the results are really great! There are a few main issues when it comes to creating maps with it:

  • The max resolution right now is 1024x1024, which is passable for a small battlemaps like random encounters, but not for larger settings
  • Little control over the specifics of the map--even when given detailed prompts it won't include many.
  • Many that it makes don't make sense. Roads + rivers starting/ending randomly. Too much clutter. No exits/entrances for the map.
  • Usually lacks a focal point for the map. The "Vary (Region)" feature that came out recently it helpful for adding it, but even this is finnicky.

I enjoy playing around with it, but it is not like you can press a button and have a good working map by any means.
