I love to see RISC-V continuing to close the gap on ARM. I currently have an Orange Pi 5 (ARM) for my self-hosting needs, but I'd love for my next server upgrade to be a RISC-V device.
In the version you compare the risv costs +93$, yes; but it comes with 128GB storage and 8 AI cores (8+8 cores). You can plan a small videogame that uses the AI capabilities to have locally speaking NPCs or improved AI (ie: a "game director" in the vein of "Left4Dead" uses: on runtime's player stats the chatbot suggest how many enemies to spawn etc.)

The article mentions that the Raspberry Pi 5, with its ARM processor, is still faster than the SpacemiT K3. It's cheaper, too, with the 8GB Raspberry Pi being $200 and the SpacemiT K3 being $293.

That seems like basically default Moore's Law which predicts performance will double in 18 months (at least the current iteration), though?
8x = 2^3, or three doublings (1->2->4->8).
3 doublings x 18 mo = 54 months.
Compared to 5 years x 12 mo = 60 months.
