That ship has decidely sailed, with both franchises on the space rocks at the moment.

That was my immediate thought after reading the headline... Which showrunners? Neither franchise has any upcoming show to run.
But I think Pelia's call out is enough of a crossover. A wink. I think you could do something similar with The Doctor, call out something like space whales and you'll be good.

Already done, The Beast Below

Brilliant! Then we're done.

I'd rather they just do a cameo. Doesn't matter which Trek show, but have the away team walk by a TARDIS. That's all you need to do to show that the crossover could happen, but get people talking about it, and most will soon realise why it shouldn't.

Or make two episodes where they are in the same setting, but are doing two different things. They can cross paths, but they shouldn't interact.
Or maybe not. Star Trek lore is messy enough.

The Lux episode was bad enough.
But, by all means, enshittify one of the few TV shows I actually enjoy.

New episodes you don't like won't erase your favourite old episodes. You'll be fine.

Oh, totally OK with that idea.
I'll still mourn the loss of what could have been though.

Only if it's the holodeck/holosuite

I'm going to complain about this until it happens and then enjoy it and then continue complaining for another ten years BUT after that I will pretend I always thought it was brilliant and beloved nugget of Trek lore.

Honestly, the two shows have such different formulas in how the action is handled that I don't really see it working very well.
Like obviously, there are writers talented enough to make anything work really, but I think the two shows do have tones that would make an episode like this just be pure fan service.
I think it would work best as like either its own self-contained little mini-series, maybe one where the doctor finds himself in the Star Trek universe and winds up traveling and interacting with multiple eras. Or a one shot special that exists outside either shows season

That's generally been my opinion, too - two great tastes that likely wouldn't taste great together.
But for the sake of arguing with myself, they were able to make the SNW/LD crossover work, and that arguably has just as much tonal whiplash, if not more, despite the shared setting.

In most crossover, at the end of the day, it feels like one is the main and the other is the "invited guest" example Simpsons and Family Guy crossover feels more like a Family Guy episode than a Simpsons episode.

Only if it's Sisko on the Star Fleet side and he gives Dr. Who the Q treatment.
themoken@startrek.website · 7 pts · 58d
I find this image hilarious, but Dr. Who is so wholesome most of the time it's hard for me to imagine Sisko getting more than mildly annoyed by his antics.

Ok sub in the Master for Q.
Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d
Miles and Julian in a holosuite would be acceptable
ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 57d
The Doctor roasting the military Starfleet and their reliance on warp drive would be something else.

the plot should be around a hotshot star trek person looking to do a dangerous stunt like jumping a shark.
