"til harassment can be a hate crime"

Yeah, but leaving food in certain spots? That's deep application there knowing what is known about American law.
My traditions technically say I shouldn't drink coffee. Suppose someone was in the mood, so out of "spite" (if that's the word to use), they said "here, build that new Starbucks right next to her house". It's due to this depth of application that I imagine I could sue the Starbucks.
I remember back when the Westboro Baptists were at their peak and someone pulled off the highly amusing move of buying a home across the street from them and painting it with the LGBT flag colors. To give a scope of that, implied in the bacon incident is that wouldn't be possible.
The amazement is about what little went into the bacon incident.

You are an idiot

How so?

Intentionally or unintentionally ignorant that coffee does not equate to a protected class, and that beliefs do not equate to preferences

If anything, the coffee was a stand-in for the pork, not the class/people. It holds the same place in this sense for some people. You didn't know that?

It may surprise you to learn that even sending a letter in the mail can be a crime.

Nothing was even sent though.

A harassing message was sent.

Where does one draw the line between spite, harassment, happenstance, and normal activities? If I followed a tradition that didn't allow me to have dogs as pets, and someone chose to walk their dog down my street, by whose logic is it a hate crime? Never mind the fact that conventional wisdom is it must be a crime first before it can combine with other factors to become a hate crime.

Are you trying to defend this bigot?

If anything, I'm only trying to understand.
