This is especially interesting because it was made during the bronze to iron transition and they likely couldn't cast the iron but they could cast the bronze, hence it's more ornate detailing. The iron was probably forged into shape from a pretty rough ball with a lot of slag still in. Forging would beat most of that out. Really neat.
