I don't disagree with your cynicism, but the reality here is Trump, Vance, Stephen Miller and the rest of the Republican administration in power right now has been stabbing Ukraine in the back as hard as they can over and over again while still smiling to the camera and pretending to not totally be bought and sold on the side of Putin to the world/the american people... and yet the US Department Of War/Defense is about to give Ukraine the means and knowledge to produce near endless Rusty Daggers to stab into russia....
Does Trump even know what the Rusty Dagger is? Does Pete Hegseth? I am sure they have been told at one point or another but these are drugged out fascist idiots obsessed with the aesthetic of violence like a kids in a candy store overwhelmed by the sensation of access to endless sugar, not serious military thinkers who understand how multitudes of complex weapons and strategies are likely to interact.
History is messy like this, especially in such an interconnected world.
The problem with the strategy for russia of trying to fabricate support for itself in the general US population in order to sabotage Ukraine is twofold.
First, fascists are incompetent and the Department Of Defense/War is one of the most obtuse, convoluted, mixed up, contradictory, inefficient, confusing human endeavors ever conceived of in world history, even if you want to shut off all the flow of resources to Ukraine the question is can you even find all the shut off valves? Will you even remember all of the shutoff valves and what order you have to do them in?
Trump just wants to do coke and golf and he is incapable of hiring anybody who has any better of a work ethic.
Second unlike Europe where the domestic politics of nations has had some history with russia that forms a common ground for russia to create domestic sympathy for the russian war effort from... in the US the concept of russia is abstract, it is something you discuss with your opinions it isn't a practical thing that has reached into people's lives and shaped them like russia has with Europe (given the long history between russia and Europe interacting).
This makes the current Republican/conservative consensus that we should be supporting Putin or indeed sympathetic to Putin at all a precarious one that is only possible because Republicans and conservatives tend to be complete sheep that are totally convinced they are independent thinkers... however this doesn't provide a strong basis for supporting russia as a politician in the US longterm, rather to the contrary it sets up an ever building latent blowback mechanism where an opening is created for politicians to skewer Republican Putin apologists for violating every ideal they loudly spend all their time going on and on about in their love for this great country of the US of A.....
edit This barely has to be said if you understand US culture but there also is no significant number of leftists in the US who support russia because of their ideology of leftism, nobody who isn't an idiot thinks russia is genuinely communist or expresses some kind of genuine alternative to capitalism and rightwing politics, Putin is a thug, he is just J. Edgar Hoover if he was more successful at his job....
All that being said, of course I recommend not putting all of Ukraine's eggs in the US basket, yes the US is not trustable I don't disagree with that I just don't see the political conditions for the US to backstab Ukraine any further than it already has. At a certain point elements of the Department Of Defense/War are going to end up helping Ukraine because that is the default "common sense" attitude in general in the US in this context and Republicans try as hard as they might have been unable to change that.
