$2?! A private boat ride for $1 per person? I hope she's paid hourly, not based on how busy it is, because it seems like they're the only ones to use this service
Yeah, I can't see how any of this setup makes any sense. Even if she's paid hourly, it must be absolutely mind-numbing. Do you just have to sit next to the boat, waiting for a call at all times that might never come?
I think if that boat didn't appear, I would have wanted them to modify the challenge to actually be completeable. It would be a bit unfair if it turns out they made an impossible challenge for one of the states. That said, this game seems very dependent on card pulls anyway, so it's not fair already
I know they said ages ago that they no longer do the taskmaster-style workarounds due to the audience backlash from the likes of "touch an animal" being completed by Sam touching Ben and Adam. But I would have loved it if they'd done something like buying an inflatable dinghy and just writing "water taxi" on it.
It's not meant to be fair. Unexpected difficulty of the challanges is part of the game. They've said as much in The Layover. Challenges are meant to be completeable, though.
But this one was completeable without the on-demand taxi. Just not at weekends. How is that much different to challenges where they have to wait for a museum or bar to open? The problem really was them just assuming the taxi would run everyday even in March and not checking before travelling there.

Sam really gives non-answers to all of Amy's questions and her quest to learn literally anything about him makes it painfully evident

Yes, they probably have to stay near the boat in case it's wanted. I guess finding time for any mandatory rest breaks isn't a problem most days!
All transit is subsidised at some point, even highways, even stuff that makes money over its lifetime. This is just more obvious than most!

Seems like there'd be plenty of time for reading or working on my steam backlog

Adam's complete indignation over the idea that a boat would appear within 20 minutes for so cheap might have been my favourite part of this episode.
And it feels poetic that the first bit of luck for Sam in about 3 episodes was him and Amy successfully dying

That whole section had me cracking up, especially when the boat actually appeared round the corner.
Wonderful storytelling and buildup to that happening and the jeopardy of maybe needing to leave the state challenge-less.

I am still staunchly of the opinion that humans are animals

Sounds like a recipe for a swim in the cold water!
