I really want to experiment with the idea of a single stake at an angle in the ground to hold up the solar panels

This would reduce material investment and allow for much easier harvesting. Does anyone have any ideas as to whether this would be possible?

I doubt it would reduce material investment, because you would need significantly stronger materials to handle the significantly higher strain. I'd argue that cost tends to increase non-linearly with strength

The thing to remember is that a module support structure not only holds them up, but also holds them down. Wind can easily decide to move your unattached modules somewhere else.

I think a flat roof would be the most structurally stable even in high wind.

Or probably A-frame like this. But the problem is the two panels wouldn't receive maximum sun light throughout the day.

Yea that's a good point. I still think the original is the most structurally stable. Could probably even use wood.

It would be hard to keep weeds from growing over the edge lying on the ground. Rain would also splash dirt on the panel. Lastly you would need to pin that edge down. Gravity by itself would not stop wind from lifting it.

This is another much more structurally stable concept
