I always love the question why. This is my first time growing an aquatic plant. I am now the proud owner of my own azolla caroliniana. I am going to be trying to find a way to grow it vertically in a waterfall system.
Azolla is a nitrogen fixing aquatic plant. It grows extremely fast and doesn't require soil. Happy to answer any other questions. I'll be updating progress with more posts with images in the future.
Yes supposedly it is. The best combination I've seen is azolla, ducks, and tilapia which love it. Ducks eat it, poop, and then the tilapia and azolla benefits from their poop as fertilization. You can create an extremely productive cycle doing this, fueled by the extremely fast growing azolla as the base. Then you add solar panels to shade the azolla, and you have excess electricity to use any machinery which helps feed the loop.

I've heard it's great as livestock feed because it's fast and easy growing plus nutritious.
