Ernie Ball to Acquire Source Audio

Ernie Ball Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of premium guitar strings, bass strings and musical instrument accessories, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Source Audio, the Massachusetts-based company behind some of the most innovative and acclaimed effects pedals in modern music.

And don't look now, but JHS used the occasion to announce a collaboration, 7 years in development, with Source Audio. It had knobs and a foot switch.

If they don’t put out a pedal called “balls to the wall” they’re just throwing money away

I don't care what it does, I want it

Hopefully Source gets to maintain some of its independence. IDK how many people work there but mergers are usually never good for the employees of the company getting bought.

True. There shouldn't be mich redundancy between the two on the engineering sides. But things like marketing and purchasing and stuff like that would be.

This is interesting news. I hope it’s a positive mood. Even before our current tariff-filled economy I felt that Source Audio found it a tad difficult to get the attention that its products deserved, because the core sounds that they produce are top notch.

Source Audio puts themselves up against Strymon, which is some tough competition. Source Audio can make a compelling claim that its algorithms are slightly better and that its pedals are better value, but Strymon has some slick UI and aesthetics. The UI in particular is an important aspect for musicians wanting to dial in a sound quickly.

I’ve wanted a Source Audio Artifakt since it came out but it’s hard to justify with the recent birth of my daughter.
