Samsung Health users asked to allow use of their health data for AI training or it will be deleted

I deleted Samsung from by "buyable brand" list a long time ago.

Oh, that's nice that they'll delete the data for us.

They delete our access to it so they have no affiliated customer related to the data and can sell it anyway.

Curious use of the word “asked” in the title. Try substituting “told”.

Again? Or was it to sell to data brokers last time?

It's fucked up because there are so many politically-connected people trying to get this data, and health data should be private.

Also, Samsung is really the only company trying to compete with Apple on performance. I don't think Google ever did, and nobody cares about the other companies and/or they don't care about competing with Apple and Samsung. But, for now, Apple is keeping health data private. So if you're a Samsung user and you're looking for your next phone, and you don't care about the couple things Samsung does better, you don't play high-end games or anything like that... an iPhone's not looking too bad if you value your health data. You're just maybe thinking the other shoe drops soon and Apple copies Samsung. After all, the two copy off each other all the time — it goes both ways. (And Samsung is an Apple supplier, further complicating the issue. Both my iPhone and my Galaxy phone have Samsung screens and Samsung storage, maybe other Samsung parts.)

I do like Samsung, and I enjoy using my Galaxy S10. Yes, my Android device is that old. My iPhone is 5-6 years newer, but other than booting faster, and having 4x the storage (before the S10 adds a memory card), the iPhone is not really better at most tasks. It's smoother. The UI is a bit cleaner — not by much. I like typing (Gboard) on the S10 better, and I like the home screen (Nova Prime) on the S10 better. Android is janky AF, but I'm used to it and it only mildly annoys me — and, I think, if you've never used an iPhone, you might not even notice it, but I do. One thing I don't do with my S10, however, is Samsung Health. I don't touch it.

I plan on replacing my S10 before I replace my iPhone — that should last me another 7-8 years at least. The only innovating Apple is doing these days is AI, and they're shit at it. I don't care about AI, so I won't need a new iPhone until they teach it a new trick that mine can't do. So I'll get some Galaxy A something or other that blows the doors off my S10, maybe even make it my primary, just keep the iPhone for health stuff, for working with my Watch and AirPods, and as a secondary device. I neither love nor hate either platform or brand (though I do like Apple's computers, but as far as things that aren't relevant here, Samsung makes good TVs, I guess).
