Planting sunflowers in a ring? Sure, easy. They might be planted a little too close together in that picture though. Plants like sun on their leaves, which is the opposite of a wall.
We call this a "Berså" in sweden, was very popular in the past and for some reason went out of style..
Granted, we don't use sunflowers, we just use regular hedges so it's permanent.
I've seen something like this done with beans that have a circle of strings connecting to a common pole to form a sort of teepee.
I'm attempting to grow some hops along my deck at the moment to form a bit of a privacy screen. Probably a bit too few for this year, but we will see how they do by the end of the summer and next year if they survive the winter.
