What The fuck even happens in the Avatar movies?

Why are they each about 3 hours long and I barely recall anything that happens in them?

I was so hyped when I went to see it, I love action movies, I love sci fi, I love most of James Cameron movied, and Avatar trailers looked fantastic...

But I was so fucking bored when I left the movie theater, I don't know why, and I have 0 need or want to see another one. It actually felt more like a theme park attraction than a movie honestly. How is this from the same director that made Abyss which is one of my favorite movies, I have no idea.

You watch those for the eye candy, not the story. Once you let go of your expectations for a good story, they're quite enjoyable.

I watched the first one when it came out, and it's the only one I watched. From my memory and without looking it up: there's imperialist extractive space Americans that need some sort of resource located under a giant tree on the planet Navoo, populated by tribal Navi people, blue entities that use their tails to have sex and also touch grass. Some American grunt is sent on a recon mission and falls in love with a blue girl who is probably a princess, who shows him their natural ways of life under the holy tree that gives them their libido. Space Americans then blow up the tree and the grunt leads a rebellion against the space people - I think there may have been a sub plot of body swapping, and some neat undulating colours.
