Iceberg: a soundtrip from Arctic to Mediterranean, by Clovis Tisserand

This radiophonic piece was born from a deep desire: to make the reality of climate change heard differently. Through sensory immersion, it invites us to listen — literally — to what the ice has to tell us.

Recorded between Arctic glaciers and Mediterranean coastlines, this work takes a fragment of ice as its guiding thread — a fragile yet powerful link between two worlds, between two times: that of a frozen past, slowly released into the atmosphere and the ocean, and that of our present in transformation.

My intention, as a sound artist, is to awaken an intimate awareness. Sound possesses this unique capacity to bypass rational filters, to touch our sensitivity directly. This is not simply about conveying information, but about provoking an emotion, an inner resonance — for it is there that engagement can be born.

This piece was presented at the Convention des Entreprises pour le Climat, before an audience of business leaders. In a space where one does not necessarily expect to hear glaciers, I wanted to make their breath felt, their crackling, their slow agony. By appealing to the senses, I seek to open a space of understanding — a bridge between science and action.

At a time when scientific data on rising sea levels, melting ice, and ocean acidification are widely known, my role is not to repeat these figures, but to embody them, to bring them to life, to make them heard. Because understanding is no longer enough — one must feel in order to act.

This piece is an invitation to listen to a world in change. An active, committed listening that may, I hope, open the way to other narratives, to other possibilities.
