The Borg weren't prepared for a startship captain to lure them into his 50's noir detective holo-novel and then machine gun them to death with a weapon made out of hard light.
I always wondered if those episodes aired before or after the Stargate's SG-1 encounter with the replicators.
All TNG episodes aired before all SG-1 episodes. The machine gunning of the Borg happened in the movie First Contact which also came out before SG-1 went on the air.
