At first, I thought it meant they put the camera itself there, which would be super-dumb because it would only ever show you a picture of your own crotch, and there are simpler and easier ways to take dick pics.
Still a lot of proprietary bullshit on there that will break and be impossible to find replacement parts for in 10 years, but at least they're not that dumb.
Seem a fair few ebikes that look incredibly proprietary and I wouldn't want to touch it because of that. Much prefer a standardised battery I can plug into a hub motor if I was to get an ebike. Currently just using a regular bike.
I bought aftermarket mask without the badge for my own car but it looked weird without the logo. Somehow it's apparently part of the design. I ended up just plastidipping the original mask then instead so now it still has the logo but it's matte black and not chrome. From the tailgate I removed it entirely.
You can get a helmet or eyeglass mounted mirror a lot more cheaply and easily fix or replace it if it breaks. And you're not limited by a fixed camera position
Why? Bikes don't have the same limited vision issues as cars do, and hence don't really need rear-view cameras. You can just turn your head and look backwards.
A radar alerting you of an incoming vehicle is more than sufficient here if you really want to add a technical solution
Seeing behind can be tricky on a bike, it's not safe to turn your head when moving fast and often you need to watch in front as well as see behind, eg to pass an obstacle. Some kind of rear view can be handy, although mirrors are also possible to use
despite the argument the other two gave. I would prefer to see behind without having to stop looking forward. I think you make a good point though. cost is a factor and a mirror does a decent enough job its unlikely the cost and complexity added with a camera would be worth it.

It's fine to turn your head if you make sure you're not going to hit something in front, and keep the backwards check short in time. I do it all the time at high speeds. Some practice is needed to make sure you don't accidentally swerve when doing it.

Rapidly switching from looking forward to looking backward and back to looking forward adequately solves this problem
If you can avoid "Rapidly switching", that's one less thing to worry about. A rear view is long overdue. Subtle eyeball movement is much more efficient than twisting your entire head.
