Tropical Depression Two has officially formed in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, developing a clear circulation but remaining relatively weak and spread out with maximum sustained winds around 30 mph. Dry air and nearby wind patterns are currently slowing down its development, but a Hurricane Hunters flight is scheduled for later today to gather more precise data on its structure. The system is currently drifting slowly northwestward due to weak steering currents, and it is expected to gradually strengthen into a tropical storm over the next day or two as it approaches the Florida Panhandle.

Looking further ahead into the middle and latter parts of the week, the storm is projected to turn toward the west or west-northwest, tracking near or across the Gulf Coast toward Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. The exact amount of intensification remains highly uncertain, as it depends heavily on how close the center stays to land versus remaining over the warm waters of the Gulf.

The primary hazards at this stage are wind and heavy rainfall. Curious to know if you like this format and if I should keep doing these. I've posted for years to Facebook and my friends and family rely on these updates as I try to be zero-drama. Disclaimer: I had AI sharpen up text that I wrote (the initial is from NHC Forecast Discussion, which I consider to be the single best source of non-drama info about systems) so I could be lazy on writing but still have it polished, but that's one thing LLMs are good for. Otherwise you'd get like "spag shows td2 wandering for a day or two, then skirting the coast" and other jargon, so this helps me keep it jargon-free.
