I'm impressed he went in! His family's lack of interest didnt stop him from doing it anyway. Maybe the last panel should have showed him having a great time rather than remaining focused on them, though.
I didn't get the impression that they were unhappy to be near the lake, just that they didn't want to swim. I guess you could read it that way, but IMO that's not intrinsic to the comic.
Yeah, this has always bothered me about these, it's a family vacation. Unless they do his thing at one point, then her thing later, and maybe something more Calvin specific, and we just don't see the others.

I've never understood this about some people. If you want to be together, why don't you suggest to do things others like - not just stuff you like?
