at the start of the match, Atamifuji likes do do this thing where he dangles his arms waiting for the other person to put his fists down, then Atamifuji does a quick motion down and charges, thus getting a bit of an advantage. But this time Kirishima refused to let him do it - Kirishima stayed standing until Atamifuji crouched down, and make sure Atamifuji had at least one hand on the ground (and the other almost-touching). The crowd even murmured when they saw what was happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwYgwqMIq5s

now that i've read your comment, i pay more attention and yes, he did it again today
So its day 10 tomorrow, and Kotoeiho at M7 is on 8-1, and is facing M12 Abi. Same deal with Shishi BTW, 8-1, and facing M12 Asahakuryu tomorrow. When are they gonna match these guys up with the ones who will slap them down? Is day 10 too early for that?
I'm not too sure how they do the match ups in detail, but I know that if there's the possibility of a yusho they get bumped up to fight the upper ranks. When Takerufuji was 8-0 they started moving him up the ranks starting just after that. I don't know if it's more difficult to do the match making when there are multiple people with top records like the 3 guys with 8-1 you mentioned. Also if someone in low ranks has a 2nd place record I don't know how they handle that either.
Maybe we'll find out this time if we keep an eye on the Shishi and Kotoeiho schedules.
Onokatsu and Mitakeumi smash together in the middle, leaning on each other and looking for hand position until Ono goes for a quick pull down that sends Mita crashing to the dirt.
Long stalemate between Kazuma and Chiyoshoma who eventually goes for a leg kick and slap down attempt that goes nowhere, but creates space and when Kazuma comes back in shoving Chiyo locks up briefly before finding the belt to assist with a successful slap down. Oddly called as a katasukashi.
Takayasu and Nishikifuji have some slaps off the line and Nishi goes for a two on one arm drag, but as he comes in with a throat shove Taka parries him by, knocking him off balance. Taka goes for a slap down but can't quite finish the job and he comes in to go for a force out. Nishi goes for a weak slap down attempt as he's driven out and is unsuccessful but they both end up falling off the ring with feet pointed at the ceiling. Fan goes to Nishi and gets overturned after a monoii.
Tobizaru and Fujiseiun can't find belts off the lines, so Fuji just works the Monkey back with a right underarm, finishing with a definitive planting of Monkey in the dirt with a crush out yoritaoshi.
Oshoma throws nodowas at Roga who can't seem to avoid them until Osho switches to putting a heavy hand on the back of Roga's neck, which he uses to work him back to the bales before shoving him out.
Ura comes out low enough that Wakamotoharu's right hand shove whiffs above Ura's shoulder. Ura uses his low position to work WMH back and out.
Gonoyama has control of Takanosho the entire time with definitive hands on the throat that he uses to leverage Taka over the straw.
Fujinokawa finds double unders off the line against Oho but is driven back anyway. He switches to the belt and goes to work again but can't seem to manage Oho's bulk at first until he finally hefts him off his feet and finishes with a big beltless throw.
Energetic match as Kotoshoho shucks Hiradoumi past, but he recovers and spins away from the incoming rear force out. Koto pushes the advantage and comes in shoving to put Hira on his back foot, who manages to slip a thrust to get Koto off balance, but when Hira comes back in he finds a slap down that sends him flying.
Atamifuji continues his brand of slow sumo that is undeniable as he positions his mass to overrun any answer Ichiyamamoto has.
Hakunofuji and Kotozakura lock up with belt grips and Haku goes for an inside trip which is denied by the ozeki. As Koto begins to walk him back Haku shifts back and gets a quick pull down for the win.
Churanoumi finds the front of the belt with Kirishima using an overhook to block a deeper grip. When he breaks the grip he goes for a big shove but comes in too hot and Chura smacks him down, putting his hands on the clay before he's forced out. Monoii is called but it stays with Chura.
Onosato comes out hot against Aonishiki who's taken to the bales, but he manages to pull the yokozuna past and dance on the edge as the champ walks out.
Hoshoryu and Yoshinofuji push at each other off the lines until Yoshi tries for a slap down. Hosho answers with some slaps and a pull down of his own but allows Yoshi deep inside who presses the position and shoves the yokozuna off the ring.
The champs aren't even in contention for the win right now with Shishi, Kotoeiho, and Aonishiki at 8-1.
A mono-ii is when one or more of the ringside judges (shinpan) has a dispute with the ring judge's (gyoji) call. The judges meet in the ring to discuss the call, and I believe they also get information remotely from judges who are watching video replays. You can see the judges talking about the Takayasu decision in this vid.
Technically wrestlers who are sitting ringside waiting for their matches are also allowed to call for it as well, though this is extremely rare. Wrestlers currently involved in the match are not allowed to dispute the call, as Hakuho found out in 2017 when he tried to dispute his match against Yoshikaze. I believe he thought it was a false start and so basically stopped wrestling, allowing Yoshikaze to force him out.

When Kirishima dangles his arms like that, I've seen it referred to as a "zombie dance"!

Fujinokawa carrying giant Oho out of the ring like it's their wedding night ROFL.

what do you mean by "gets overturned after a monoii"? Watched Dondon's 10 and that wasn't included.
It was clear on the screen, but, yes, ref was too busy trying to get out of the way.

Hey! Welcome back!
To be fair, gyoji had to run out of the way of Takayasu's charge/push!
123 kg (271 lbs) vs 185 kg (408 lbs) - it's pretty spectacular to watch Fujinokawa try to lift Oho up, and finally succeed in throwing him down.
Yeah... I think Hoshoryu didn't realize how good a grip Yoshinofuji was gonna get, and how well he was gonna exploit it. Good job Yoshinofuji!

yeah, what do you do if a truck is about to run you over? Just step out of the way!
e: glad to see Aonishiki's fall yesterday didn't hurt his foot too bad!
