Why is the #CockroachJantaParty not on the Fediverse? After the fascists (#Twitter and #Modi) colluded to kill their online presence?

In fact, where is #India on the Fediverse? They have the highest Linux adoption rate, but somehow haven't found their way to free social media?

@MishaVelthuis @nostupidquestions There are quite a few of us here but the network effects are real and much of the people are stuck in because their social circle ain't here.

Maybe it would help if there was a clear rallying point?

For #Colombia https://col.social/ , managed by @admin , seems to have worked quite well for that.

But I guess it doesn't have to be a server. It could also be a hashtag?

Like #FedIndia ?

If necessary followed through a relay, like #FediBuz to bring together different servers? (Paste https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/fedindia in the search bar + follow + add notification alert?)

@bacteriostat @nostupidquestions @admin @joenepraat If the #CockroachJantaParty would tell it's millions of Instagram followers to move to some still-to-be-set-up setup server like @cockroach.org if necessary with a VPN to circumvent government censorship, that would be a great way to bring India into the Fediverse...

That would no doubt be awesome but keep in mind that the Cockroach party is just 2 months old (even less). They don't even have a proper handle and channel of communication.

It is crazy what they have achieved but they are far from being organized.

They have a bigger fish (education minister) to fry right now as they are still out on the streets.

@bacteriostat @nostupidquestions @joenepraat @aiquiral Yeah I understand. Don't want to distract them from more immediate challenges.

Then again, never waste a good crisis. Maybe now that communication strategies are still being developed, now is the right moment to convince people to at least ALSO be here?

Streets are more important anyway. But if you do need a digital space we'd love to have you!

@bacteriostat @nostupidquestions @admin @joenepraat I'd be happy to help set it up. Anyway to reach out to them? 🤪 @aiquiral ?

@MishaVelthuis Creating a Mastodon server is not that difficult (few hours work), but are you going to moderate it?

@joenepraat @MishaVelthuis @bacteriostat @nostupidquestions @admin I don't think we need a dedicated Indian server. 2 already exist, mastinsaan.in and india.goonj.xyz
People can just join the general servers. But most indians are not willing to shift, probably because of lack on content, I think

@aiquiral @joenepraat @nostupidquestions Yeah I guess that's what @bacteriostat means with the network effects being real. That's why it would maybe be good to jump on a some event. Preferably with some political weight.

@MishaVelthuis And going to India to flyer? 😉

@MishaVelthuis @nostupidquestions This question is asked many times before. There was an influx of people from India once, but they almost all left.

@joenepraat @nostupidquestions

Some questions are worth repeating every now and then? 🥲

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 2 pts · 24d (2 replies)

I'm unaware if there are many Indian instances or communities to begin with. Kind of hard to get people to start going to a place where nobody speaks the same language as them.

KurtVonnegut@mander.xyz · 3 pts · 24d (1 reply)

That is to some extent true, probably. Although many people in India speak English. If not as a first language, then as a second language.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 1 pts · 24d

I'm not saying fediverse users can't speak Hindi, but that they don't regularly.

ram@sfba.social · 1 pts · 21d

@MishaVelthuis @nostupidquestions They should have their own instance going by the sheer numbers!
