I never read the comics, but when I read the novelization, I barely had any concept of who Batman was and even less so any of the other characters. (I had watched occasional episodes of TAS and that's about it.)
So the ideas and villains introduced were somewhat wild to me.
I came in from a somewhat similar area. I loved this series so much as a kid. I was fascinated and have remained enamored with this arc. I've been dying to see it brought Nolan style to a big screen but this will be great too.
Yes! The "oh shit" moment with Bane in the comics is that the big scary thug is also the actual mastermind. There's no secret weakness, or real mastermind to undermine him. He's just actually scary smart, and ruthless and evil in ways the average Arkham inmate isn't imaginative enough to be.
The movie did better than grunting thug Bane, but really didn't give us ruthless mastermind Bane.

I guess it makes sense in context of the comics (whose titles were terrible.)
Knight fall is the overall arc, and also the name of the first of three(?) chapters.

This was awesome back in the day. Until Azrael become bats. Then it hits peak 90's

Dark Knight Rises shared a lot of story elements with, at least, the novel.

Yeah I was disappointed in how they did that one with Bane just being a finger puppet.

Exactly! He has been so shafted in the movies. One of my favorite things about Bane was how damn smart he was.

Japanese kawaii slice of life anime. Bat-kun and Bane-chan have a falling out and their friends try to help sort it out.

Stage play! With Patrick Stewart as Bane!

I would see that, twice if you can get John Malkovich to play Batman.
