The Secretary of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) at the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, emphasized that the arrest was carried out in accordance with both national and international legal procedures.

This refutes allegations that the legal action taken was non-procedural.

“The individual was sought based on immigration crossing data showing entry into Indonesia; to say that we acted in a non-procedural manner would be a huge mistake. The Interpol Red Notice was issued on June 10, 2026, and it was determined that the individual entered Indonesian territory from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” Brig. Gen. Untung explained to reporters on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

Prof. Sudarnoto stated that he had reviewed a copy of Miqdad’s arrest warrant.

According to the document, the arrest was carried out at the request of Interpol Cyprus on suspicion of involvement in acts of terrorism.

However, he questioned whether the Indonesian government had thoroughly verified these allegations before complying with the Cypriot authorities’ request.

“Did the Indonesian government immediately investigate the veracity of Cyprus’s claim that Miqdad is indeed a terrorist?” he asked.

In addition, Sudarnoto also highlighted the alleged lack of legal representation for Miqdad during the arrest process and his subsequent deportation to Cyprus.

“One thing I’d like to ask is, who was the lawyer representing Miqdad? There wasn’t one,” he said.

He noted that, based on information he had obtained from several international lawyers, there was no information regarding legal representation for Miqdad during that process.

Prof. Sudarnoto assessed that the case has the potential to be not only a legal issue but also one with political dimensions related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
