It’s interesting that most mountain systems, including the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Alps, Andes, and even the Himalayas, have dense, continuous networks; but the Appalachians look like a big hole.
Other odd gaps are the upper Amazon, Poland, and east/central China.

Indeed - why so low in most of Poland, compared to neighbouring regions with similar climate/crops, also I wonder if tibetan plateau is really so great for Fungi? Or are these artefacts from the machine-learning algorithm?

Of course that has multiple complex relations. One might be intensity of agricultural usage.
Monitoring this over longer periods of time will be interesting, a pity there's not much data for the past years?

Quite interesting is, bigger roads (or heavily used roads) seem to act as a kind of barrier.
