Half or more of workers at companies like Starbucks, Target, and Kohl’s are working part-time hours — in Starbucks’s case, one hour fewer per week than they would need to qualify for benefits.

Separate health benefits from employment.
Makes an employer have to be more competitive to keep workers, like other financial benefits or (gasp) higher wages/more hours.

this. health care and retirement and such should not be tied to work.

Normalize 32 hours as full-time with benefits.
Actually, folks should get benefits at 20 hours. People with young kids or something else major going on in their lives would be better able to work then.

24 hours is the perfect full time amount. That’s three 8h shifts, or four 6h shifts (without lunch), or maybe even two 12h shifts.

Yeah I don't understand this obsession with keeping everyone on 40 hour weeks. If there aren't enough jobs for everyone to work 40 hours a week, then just cut hours and employ everyone who wants to and is able to work. Pay the same. There's enough money floating out there if we stop letting sociopaths hoard it all.
