You might guess that "disabled" means MSG wasn't recording any footage of the events in question. But this Pitchfork summary, and the WIRED article it links to, both use "disabled" in a more careful, more limited sense:
Dolan’s MSG locked nearly all of its security team out of the network of surveillance cameras inside the arena
I don't mean this as any sort of defense of the very rich, or their habit of buying themselves special privileges. I think it's a sign of how pervasive and normalized surveillance is becoming.

MSG locked their own people out of the nasty real-time biometric / face-recognition / "papers please" panopticon revenge system they've built. They didn't turn that system off. They didn't lock everyone out. They're calling that "disabled." I don't see any specific claim, in either article, that any cameras were turned off for even a moment.

Noticed that myself as well. Very well could still be a recording of it and still could be trained on

I wonder if Mamdani has the power/will to regulate that kind of surveillance out of existance within NYC.

That would likely need to be legislation passed by the city council then signed by the mayor.

So it's not really about protecting anyone?

So anyone hosting an event can request this as well? Time to ask why others haven't asked before.
