According to OSINT analysts, footage from the engagement appears to show that some of the Russian T-72B3 Model 2022 tanks were fitted with the Arena-M active protection system, although it remains unclear how many vehicles carried it.

With the front lines in Ukraine stuck in the same place forever and things on non-metaphorically on fire at home, the pressure on the military to do something must be insane. Of course, if they had any good options available they'd probably already be doing that.
Make me wonder if commanders have been told that they need to show results or join the stormtrooper units themselves, so they're trying desperate shit like this.

Is 9 massive nowadays, or is it actually an unusually large number? I know they dont have a lot, but let's say its the near the start of the war, 9 seems small?

When a land army has decisively lost the air and artillery war and cannot concentrate its forces, this represents a massive concentration of ground forces.
Normally militaries at this point transition entirely to dispersed guerilla warfare that never concentrates forces or attempts to seize territory, but russia cannot politically admit to itself that is where they are.
It isn't the wrong idea, drones have not made manuever warfare obsolete, russia is simply no longer capable of it for the forseeable future.
Airpower makes concentrating forces disastorous and yet there is no other way to effectively fight a landwar. Russia is now stuck in that lethal paradox.

So generally speaking you wouldn't typically see 9 tanks in a single specific offensive.

Not with air defenses so systematically broken (both for manned aircraft and unmanned aircraft).
Under an operational air defense umbrella 9 tanks are devastating, outside of one against proficient aerial assets concentrating this much force in one place is suicide.

Thanks for the link, like this emphasizes this assault was likely a test case for larger armored pushes, but the Arena-M system was never designed for drones, it was designed for big antitank guided rockets.
In particular the Arena-M's sensors are only able to be hacked into detecting drones by detecting a micro dopplar effect from drone propellers. It is a hack and the systems coverage is narrowly focused on the attack angles a top attack munition like the Javelin would take and a slower flying drone can simply choose not to take those approach angles.
Something like the Bulldog C-UAS system is infinitely more useful against drones in my opinion. The Arena-M system may be effective against guided top attack antitank missiles I don't know, but in its current form it is not a real C-UAS system.
