Portugal's Internal Colonialism: Demolition of Bairro Santa Filomena

Laith Marouf joins Pan-Africanist, anticolonial militant and rapper Flàvio Almada (LBC Soldjah) to report on the militarized demolition campaign targeting Lisbon's Bairro Santa Filomena. Like Cova Da Moura, Bairro Santa Filomena forms part of the Portuguese state's strategy of ethnically cleansing it's internally colonized communities where many former colonized Africans, migrants and the poor reside - which, as Flàvio says, produces "peripheries of the peripheries." In their discussion, Flàvio and Laith connect the demolition to historic and continuing attacks of western imperialism on the internal colonies of Brazil, France and the US, touching upon the 1835 Salvador Malê Intifada of enslaved muslims, the police murder of Nahel Merzouk, the 1985 MOVE bombing, ICE kidnappings, and the arrest of the revolutionary Mumia Abu-Jamal.
