Id bet on an evolutionary time line cats were the catalyst for human civilization. Like so cute that it united us all in suppressing our predatory instincts.
There are plenty of carnivore species that are also prey. House cats and some other small cat species are one example. Polar bears mainly eat seals, which are also carnivores.
