One week into the league what are your thoughts? Share them here!

In the process of trying to engage more with niche communities here on lemmy, I bring you the most fine and common post you will ever find.

As the tittle says I want to hear your thoughts, drops you had, or whatever you want about this first week of the league.

I will go first.

For an old but casual player like me, its has been a really great league start.

I tend to skip a few leagues. I don't remember such a smooth one. The campaign has been really smooth, maybe too smooth. Between the chest from the league and the socket color change it has been really easy to go through.

Also while i have read complaints about loot on the first days, for me voyages and charts had been great. Maybe it's because i don't juice maps too much. Both the charts and voyage reminds me of alch and go, you don't think, just put the chart and go blow things.

Bonus track: I had my first event in a lot of years of poe, i vendored a body chest while i was in the final part of crafting it. Luckily i'm so bad at it that it was trash by any standards, but it stung me a lot, it was MY trash.

Levelling is usually a chore for me, but this time it was fun. The socket change made it so the levelling is chill instead of constantly having to worry about sockets to keep up the good pace. It's basically a race since if you can get to maps fast you are likely to be able to snipe some good meta uniques.

Charts are fine, they are fast and relatively rewarding for being tile loot mechanic. I wish we could run only charts instead if being blocked from running more by needing to free up space by running a voyage.

Voyages are a mess though. 99% of adjacent modifiers you can get are effectively useless as there is no monsters in there to scale anything. So you either spend hours fishing for rare monsters drop divine orb modifier and then setup a proper voyage or instead just run random tiles and don't even look at the adjacent modifiers. The fact that we have a single tab to prepare for voyages is a crime. Not only it prevents people from enjoying charts, but it also forces those that want to fish for a proper setup to simply delete completed charts if they don't want to lose that rare monsters drop divine orb adjacent modifier they spend hours fishing for.

I'm primarily a mapper so for me this league is a sad one. This patch killed Breach mechanic whichwas the remaining scaler, so the game is in a state now that there is no way to scale map pack size, quantity and rarity anymore to effectively juice the content. We have such a power creep to make hard mapping content viable, and they made it so unprofitable, that you actually losing monery if you invest in that content now.

After this leage reworked Abyss, we hoped and prayed that it will be good, but that was not to be. It drops nothing as the loot chests do not scale with map pack size, quantity and rarity. And even after the "buff patch" all they did was add more chests which drops few orbs worth less than a few chaos.

This is the current state of abyss ground loot, the map was 220% quant, 187% rarity, 136% pack size and 76% more currency.

I'm not hiding any items here, is this really the intended reward from an abyssal crystal? (100+ mobs spawned on this singular spot).

Alch and go on the other hand seems to be in a decent spot. Without inherent ground loot, altars which drop pre-determined loot are the best thing about mapping, so if someone just rushes maps they can enjoy the content and make a decent living.

Map boss rushing is in a similar vain popular and profitable alternative to alch and go. If killing monsters doesn't matter because the loot is pre-determined people will adapt to that.

Bonus: So far the player retention this league is second worst in the Path of Exile history. -100k players in 9 days.

This is probably my fault, I will explain.

I wrote in the op that i tend to skip leagues. Well, my friends tell me that the ones i skip are the good ones and the ones i play the bad ones. Just so you get an idea... I played Bestiary and Synthesis, skipped Expedition and Sentinel. Also played Kalandra but skipped Mirage... Every time I played a league Reddit exploded in how bad the league was lol.

Still, I'm enjoying it, coming back after a year has been really enjoyable, but my friends that play every league had a similar experience to you.

Although I'm surprised about the player retention, this felt like an easier league for casuals, lots of power creep, easier crafting, etc.

I have been enjoying voyages, but i don't try to make an efficient setup nor i engage with the tile mechanic..... I just make a circle or snake and go through it. Probably inefficient, but i don't want to engage with the tiles mechanics, way too tedious. Why would they re-introduce them after Synthesis push-back is a mystery to me. I may watch a guide to see how worth the tedium of fishing tiles and borders is, but for now, I pass.

Anyways, i will probably play for 2 months and then try poe2, which i haven't play since 0.1 launch also excited to try!
