Prime Minister Takaichi's policy of a 1% consumption tax on food products could lead to mass bankruptcies among restaurants

Anyone else noticing a pattern to Takaichi’s policies? Whether they apply to foreigners or natives, they all seem to allude to survival of the fittest.

If consumption tax for eating out drops by 90% (even though consumables are taxed at 8%, it’s 10% for food consumed on-site) the large chains and famous spots can withstand it, while mom and pop shops will start closing in droves nationwide. Not just foreign-owned, but Japanese-owned restaurants that have been in the family for generations.
