I think it looks great either way, I was just wondering how safe it is (I live in an an earthquake-heavy area these days so things like that jump out at me more than they used to).
I'm sure it's fine. Without question it's had to be reinforced, probably several times over. I've walked into places like the oldest bar in North America and been like "wow, sagging and leaning joists that actually make me nervous but I can see they've bolted numerous steel plates to it all" - this stuff has to be certified safe by the jurisdiction, so it's not as bad as it might seem to look at it.

If you treat the house well, this traditional houses are built to last. Take a look at Europe or Asia. 400 years are more like young-timers there.
And if an old building survived 400 years in an Earthquake-Area, i would assume it will outlast the next earthquake too :)
